Will a puppy be underneath your Christmas tree?

Christmas is such a magical time of year where we think about what we would like to find underneath the tree from Santa.

Going back longer than I would wish it was, I can remember writing my letters to Santa Claus and it was always the same! Asking, wishing, hoping that we would get a pitter, patter of four paws, collar, lead, bowls and everything that you would need for a puppy. However, it never happened as my parents wanted me to show I could be responsible enough to look after a puppy not only on a whim or something that would be a flash in the pan. Although at the time it was a really hard lesson to learn, fast forward to now I can totally understand why they made the decisions they did.

When we did eventually get a puppy, it was well researched in to what breed we wanted, that we had the time to put into training and raising a dog and all other considerations. It wasn’t Christmas time when we went to pick her up but when we did bring her home it felt like all my Christmases had come at once and was everything I had hoped for and more!

It is so tempting to buy children puppies for Christmas and it is a truly magical gift, but it is so important to remember that they are lifelong commitment.

Do your research on where your puppy comes from and what breed will fit best into your family. Be ready for some sleepless nights! This can be particularly hard at Christmas as it is often the time of year where you can have a break and may want to relax and sleep.

Christmas is also probably one of the most stressful times of year! Adding a puppy into the mix can make it a lot more stressful as there is often so much going on from family coming, food preparation, presents under the tree, the tree itself. Puppies like to explore everything! More often than not with their mouths. So being ready to supervise your puppy throughout Christmas so that they are kept safe throughout the festivities, is a consideration.

If you are adding a new family member enjoy them! Build a strong bond and relationship with them that will last a lifetime.

Puppies are great addition to any family at any time of the year! I hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year.

If you are at all worried or have any questions how to get through Christmas in one piece please do not hesitate to ask.
